San Agustin Children's Fiesta

For the last ten days I helped host my Life Bible College 45th reunion of our Aletheian Class here in Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico. It was so great to see some friends from the past, many I hadn't seen for 45 years. We 'ole folks' had a fantastic time. God gave us perfect weather in the middle of many days of rain and high winds. The day they came the weather was perfect and the day they left the rains returned.

During these fun days we ate in Restaurants featuring typical Oaxacan food, saw a showing of the famous Guelaguetza indigenous Folklore dances, toured a coffee Finca and waterfalls, went horseback riding through jungle areas and along a quiet beach, went river rafting down the Copalita river, played on the Los Conejos beach, sailed on my friends 35 foot yacht to San Agustin. The second part of our reunion we drove to the state of Chiapas and visited the colonial town of San Cristabol. What a delightful indigenous area high in the jungle mountains. Then we went on to Palenque to see the Mayan ruins.

On Sunday of the first week, we had taken the sail boat to the San Agustin Beach where our mission Church, pastored by Damien Cruz was waiting for us. He and his wife Rosalina prepared a feast of lobster, large shrimp and fish with all the trimmings. What a meal!

After such a feast we set up for a Children's fiesta in place of their regular church service. The fiesta started late in the afternoon. Their regular church services usually don't start until late at night because weekends are the locals busiest time for their work. We had a time of interaction with the children, making balloons, etc. One attendie was a little unhuman. Then we had music and sharing from the children.

One of our class members, Karen, is going in for test when she returns to the states and the children prayed for her. That was a teary and emotional moment. [Karen later reported to us that they found no cancer]
My classmates then put on a puppet show about a sad turtle. I had written the turtle story the year before which was inspired by a boat trip that one of the local fisherman gave another group of mine that came down where we found a sick turtle. Several weeks back I had a drama team come and we recorded the story on Cd and later I added sound effects. We hope to do a series of these stories on Cd for use of puppets directed to the indigenous lifestyle.
Here are some photos I took of our reunion.
